-*OPERATIONS*-
When KBBS is waiting for a call, your screen will be blank. It
is recommended that you turn off your monitor when you are not
monitoring the KBBS since monitors do break down due to heat.
The screen blanking is done to protect your monitor from having
an image "burnt in" on the screen.
Local Login... [F1] key...
This will start the Login sequence just as if you called from a
modem, except that all input is expected from your keyboard, and
all output is to your monitor, or disk drive, printer, etc.,
depending on your request. When you logon locally, the phone is
automatically taken off the hook so that callers will get a busy
signal if they try to call while you are logged on locally.
Chat Mode... [F5] key...
When a caller is online, this will toggle on or off the chat
mode, which allows you to "chat" with a caller via your keyboard
and monitor. Your "chat" session is logged to "chat.log" which
can be viewed, shrunk, copied to disk, or killed in the System
Access Area. For more information about this, see "System Access
Area."
Drop to DOS... [F9] key...
This feature allows you to drop to DOS anytime. This feature is
active when KBBS is waiting for a call, when you are logged on
locally, or when a caller is online. If a caller is online, a
message is displayed on the callers computer telling them that
the "sysop dropped to dos, please standby." If no one is on the
line (KBBS is waiting for a call) then dropping to DOS will take
the phone off the hook, making the phone busy, in case someone is
trying to call while you're in DOS. If you logged on locally,
the phone is already busy via [F1] Local Login. To return to
KBBS after dropping to DOS, type EXIT.
Recycle KBBS or Terminate a Caller Fast... [Alt-X]...
If a caller is online, this will immediately end the session. If
you want to clear everything and restart KBBS, this works, too.
Hold down the [Alt] key and press [X] key.
Voice calls to KBBS don't create a problem, but the timing
sequence, while the system waits for a carrier, may last longer
than the caller stays on the line. This is a necessity so that
slow systems can gain access. It takes a few seconds before a
timeout occurs and KBBS detects NO CARRIER and the phone is put
back on the hook.
